Brief History and Introduction

Department of Plastic Surgery is relatively new & upcoming specially. It expanded rapidly because of upcoming demand of specialty & need .of people regarding burns & their reconstruction. This unit become teaching since 1995 & became first full fledged department in Punjab and 2nd in Pakistan. It is one of the few unit in Pakistan where micro surgery is being performed and
micro-vascular free flap was first performed in Mayo Hospital in this department in 2000.

Ward is 60 bedded with 20 beds allocated for acute burn emergencies and 40 beds for reconstructions plastic surgeons. In 2005 more than 800 operations were performed.
