Only four beds were sanctioned at Mayo Hospital, Lahore at the general entrance of main hospital building. Professor Bashir Ahmed decided to shift indoor and neurosurgical facilities to Lahore General Hospital, Lahore to expand the newly developing subspecialty while remaining affiliated to faculty of King Edward Medical College, Lahore. He rendered extraordinary services to neurosurgical patients till he retired on 31.12.1993.

Professor Javed Majeed Mian(MS) (Late) joined as second Professor of Neurosurgery and worked hard in caring patients admitted in Neurosurgical unit-II at Lahore General Hospital, Lahore. He remained as faculty member between 11.1.86 to 30.9.1999 till his retirement.

The unit had 5 intensive care beds, one male and one female ward 10 beds each. Moreover, the unit had OPD services, 3 elective operation days at Albert Victor Hospital (AVH). Emergency cases were operated in operation theatre of General surgery.

The unit was headed by Dr. Anjum Habib (FRCS), Professor of Neurosurgery w.e.f. 23.12.2002 after retirement of Professor Iftikhar Ali Raja and he continued his services till 20.7.2004.
