BRIEF HISTORY AND INTRODUCTION

Govt. Lady Aitchison Hospital, Lahore is 200 bedded Obstetric & Gynaecology teaching institute established since 1887 and affiliated with King Edward Medical University, Lahore. This hospital provides tertiary care curative and preventive services to Gynecology and Obstetrical cases. The facilities provided to the patients in this hospital are, Radiology, Dental Department, Blood bank and Laboratory. Family planning Center situated in this hospital provides all the family planning services to the needy patients free of cost including surgical procedure etc.

It has Antenatal & Gynae out patients departments, very busy emergency, Labour room & Operation Theatre. Indoor departments include Antenatal, Postnatal, Gynae Post operative wards & intensive care units. Hospital outpatients and inpatients departments cater to a large number of patients.  More than 13000 deliveries take place in this hospital annually, which are in addition to 3500 major operations and 2000 minor operations performed per year.

Services Being Provided

The hospital provides tertiary care curative and preventive services to the Gynecological and Obstetrical cases. About 129,368 patients attend OPD of this hospital every year. It provides indoor facility to about 25,789 patients.6,000 major and minor surgeries are carried out every year. About 13,000 babies are delivered here every year. The facilities being provided to the patients in the hospital are, Radiology services, Laboratory services, Blood bank services, Dental treatment facility, EPI services are also provided to new born babies. Financial help to poor and needy patients is arranged through Social Welfare Department from Zakat and Bait-Ul-Mall. Family planning Center functioning in the hospital provides necessary family planning services to patients free of cost including surgical procedure etc. Training to the under graduate and post graduate medical students. The training experiences provided by this hospital is recognized by the college of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan. Training to community midwives, nurse midwives and LHV’s. Postgraduate training like F.C.P.S, M.S, M.D and Ph.d programmes in affiliation with King Edward Medical University. Workshops & Trainings are conducted for Medical & Paramedical staff from all over country on different aspects of Maternal & child health in collaboration with D.G. Health Punjab, UNICEF & PAIMAN.
