Dr. Muhammad Naeem did his MBBS in 1980 from King Edward
Medical College Lahore. He joined Nuclear Medicine as Medical Officer
at CENUM Lahore in 1981. Then he proceeded to UK in 1988 and obtained
Masters degree in Nuclear Medicine from St. Bartholomew’s
Hospital Medical College, University of London, UK. His M.Sc. degree
has been recognized for the speciality of Nuclear Medicine by Pakistan
Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) and Kuwait Institute for Medical
Specialization (KIMS), Kuwait.
Introduction:
Centre
for Nuclear Medicine (CENUM), Lahore started functioning in early
sixties (1963) under the name of Medical Radioisotope Centre. It
was later on known as Atomic Energy Medical Centre and was renamed
as Centre for Nuclear Medicine (CENUM), Lahore in the year 2001.
Committed to the life saving concept and enhancement of healthcare
standards in Pakistan, CENUM has been providing nuclear medicine
services to the patients since its inception. More than twenty five
thousand new patients are registered annually for various nuclear
medicine procedures at the Centre.
CENUM
continues to provide the best and yet affordable nuclear medicine
services to its patients. This social mission and humanitarian legacy
has been the driving force behind the Centre's efforts and achievements
in Service, Teaching and Research, the "Three Pillars"
of CENUM.
The
department of Diagnostic Nuclear Medicine at CENUM is equipped with
the latest Single and Dual Head SPECT Gamma Cameras assisted by
ultra-sensitive fast computers and are managed by highly trained
& competent medical and technical experts. Our procedures commonly
called Scintigraphic investigations or scan provide valuable functional-information
(to a certain extent structural information as well) that can enable
physicians / surgeons to make an early diagnosis. These tests are
relatively safe, painless and are considered to be among the safest
diagnostic tests available.
A
specialized laboratory using RIA technique is available at CENUM
for the determination of thyroid hormones, infertility hormones
and tumor markers.
CENUM
has the distinction of initiating the first ever Breast Care Clinic
in PAEC medical centres. The Clinic is equipped with the latest
and state of art machinery like Metaltronica FLAT® SE Mammography
Machine and Toshiba’s Nemio 20 Ultrasonography. Yet another
most modern Colored Doppler Machine has been installed at the centre
for detailed evaluation of the disease in breast. Patients suffering
from all types of breast diseases are carefully examined.
Another milestone achievement of CENUM is the Thyroid Clinic where
patients are diagnosed, managed and treated under the supervision
of highly qualified and experienced physicians.
CENUM has been providing teaching and training facilities to postgraduate
doctors from various specialties by organizing training and teaching
programmes in the field of nuclear medicine. Students from various
educational institutes come here for their research work. The Centre
is also involved in research and training activities in collaboration
with IAEA, Postgraduate Medical Institute Lahore, King Edward Medical
University Lahore, Pakistan Institute of Engineering & Applied
Sciences (PIEAS) Islamabad, University of the Punjab and University
of Engineering &Technology, Lahore.
CENUM
is constantly eyeing in the future and advancing. The possibilities
that crop up for expansion are captured at the appropriate time.
A most modern and state of the art dual head SPECT Gamma camera
has been installed recently and is in operation to strengthen the
Nuclear Medicine Department. A Bone Densitometer and a Digital X-ray
machine are in operation thus broadening the spectrum of diagnostic
facilities at the Centre.
The key attribute to the centre success is its principles of meeting
international standards of quality control. The strong believe in
providing quality nuclear medicine service has earned CENUM continued
and valuable trust.
